The towers, honestly
Lift up, hundreds of steps down: the towers are worth it, for some.
A tower visit takes you up one of the spires on the Nativity facade, the side Gaudí oversaw himself,
facing east toward the sea, or on the Passion facade, facing west over the city centre. A lift carries
you up; you walk along narrow walkways among the pinnacles, then come down on foot by a tight spiral staircase.
Guests on these tours put it at 400 or more steps.
Two things the listings do not shout about. First, the tower is never guaranteed: towers close in
rain and strong wind and for special events, and the basilica gives no refund for the tower if it closes; on
tours, refund outcomes vary: some guests get money back, others do not. Second, on most tours the tower part is unguided: the guide
leaves you at the lift, and it adds about half an hour, more if there is a queue for the lift.

against the official ticket, and how to plan a visit that does the building justice.
What "fast track" really skips
Every Sagrada Familia ticket is for a time slot, sold online (buying on the spot by QR code only works when
the day is not full), and busy days sell out. So "fast track" or "skip the line" on a tour means your entry time is already
reserved. You still pass through the same security check as everyone else, with bags scanned and a metal
detector, and one operator warns that can take 20 to 30 minutes on busy days. What the tours really add is a
live guide who keeps the group together and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Bought direct in 2026, entry with the app audio guide costs 26 EUR, the official guided tour 30 EUR, entry

tours cost more, from $89 with a tower included and $116 for the fast-track tour with the
tower option, because the price covers the operator's guide, booking fees and a flexible cancellation that the
official ticket does not have. If you can book the official site weeks ahead and your dates are fixed, going
direct is the cheaper choice. If your trip is close, your plans might change, or you want a guide who keeps
the group together, a tour is worth the difference.
The honest small print: the tower is the part most likely to go wrong. Towers close in
rain, wind and for special events, the official terms give no refund for the tower, and on tours, guests report
anything from a refund for the tower to none at all. Book the tower for the day you have the most slack, and have a no-tower
plan in mind.
Nativity or Passion: which tower?
The Nativity towers rise above the facade Gaudí oversaw in his lifetime, the part listed by UNESCO,
and look east over the city toward the sea; the morning is the best time. The Passion towers face west
over the city centre and catch the afternoon light. Both are visited the same way: a lift up, walkways among the
pinnacles and a long spiral staircase down. The new central Tower of Jesus Christ, blessed by Pope Leo XIV on
10 June 2026 for the centenary of Gaudí's death, is not part of the visit.

Treat it as the working church it is: shoulders covered, shorts or skirts at least to mid-thigh, no hats
inside. Carry a small bag rather than a rucksack, because bags are scanned and tower visitors must leave them
